After today's really helpful lecture about writting an essay, we had a seminar where we could discuss our ideas and bring up any questions we may have about the project.
Before today's lecture i came up with a question:
How truthful can be a portrait ?, but soon realised I couldn't write about that because is a broad subject and is so many artists doing different things.
So i decided to pick a more specific subject inside portraiture, but still I was confused which one, either go for the truth behind female artists in portraits or changing genders of some artists in their artwork.
To backup my Artwork Idea for the Self-Portrait, and after tutor Phil showing me the light in the end of the tunnel, I decided to go for the change of genders in a artwork.

Self Portrait: Brainstorming and Final Idea
Final Idea
This Self-Portrait will reflect myself and show how my background affected my life until now, coming from a family where women are predominant among men, not having a close relationship with my father, and not having a grandfather in my growing years, i didn't experience what is having a male figure present in my life, this portrait will show how growing up in the middle of "female" family has affected my decisions and all my ideas, also it will be a kind tribute to them.
For my Final Idea I decided to depict myself with some female features added onto my face ( faces from my relatives) and make a composite to show my true self, who was taught by these relatives the important values of life, and also, like i said before, still have an important role in my life. I' ll represent myself showing half of my body to better see the features of my composited face, and holding a Sand Clock( meaning of the lapsed time). Entering into the more symbolic part of the Idea, i will have sand clouds "cutting into" my self-portrait, which represent my childhood and the environment I was brought up.

Maya Tutorials: Fan
Here's the fan, and again my day was spent on Maya i don't know im getting addicted and that means only good for me heheh. this tutorial was a harder than the others before because I had to make more details of the object, looks cool after all ... the only problem i found was when i needed to center the pivot point in the middle of the grid and i couldn't find the Insert key to do as i'm using mac, after researched on internet i found that the upper diagonal arrow does the same job.

And that's it the magnifying glass, the only problem i encounter was when doing the head ring i beveled the edges twice so the first time i rendered it looked too crispy and artificial. after i made it again i found that i'm progressing fast on Maya knowing how to solve some problems going around the menus. Also I went to check what is the refraction index of a convex lens and it's 1.5, I got the table with some difference materials so will help when doing reflections.

Self Portrait: Louis le Brocquy
After I had a glance at the "Face to Face- british self-portraits of the twentieth century" i came across with Louis le Brocquy, unknown to me to date. the difference between him and the some other artists was that his work stood out because of its abstractism while representing humans. he has a long collection of portraits from 1975 to 2005, as well as other types of artworks, each one more stunning than the previous one.

Maya Tutorials: Toaster
Today when i woke up i decided lets have a modelling day so after i finished the dice, which i can say with some unsucessful tries, i move on to make the toaster one of the new tutorials for this week. thankfully to a really good straightforward tutorial helped a lot to achieve the outcome.
I just changed the color of the toaster to something else after I researched on internet, toasters of 1960s..

FInally I could upload my Dice project on my blog, the only problem i did encounter was because of the extrude setting which provoked a mistake on the UV map, but after read some blogs and see that people had the same problem, i follow their advise...
Looking forward to doing the toaster, magnifying glass and fan.
