Transcription: Young Man Face Modelling

With the body modelled I moved onto the face. I have to say that modelling a face is tricky but it is indeed the most enjoyable thing to do, has in real time you begin to see your character taking shape in 3D.

The modelling technique was the same used as always, and I have also added the fur for the hair, however not the overall character while the eyebrows will be fur, because I hate to make them out of piece of geometry.  The hair is a piece geometry, taken to Zbrush to add some extra detail. I then brought it back to Maya and now it is ready to receive more detail in texture stages.

These last days, I have getting on with the modelling the characters, having Erich Zann pretty much done (further details are to be added in texturing). I got on with the young man character, I used the same method to model the body.
Even though I had the turnarounds for the characters some tweaking was needed, so the character  looked slightly more proportional.

Here is a quick update of the animatic with the extra line in the end, it definitely adds more mood and atmosphere  to the animatic and closes better the animation.

Transcription: Extra Voice Over For The Animation

After receiving the last feedback on the animatic, the last piece of narration was not fitting into place quite well. So I got back to Robin Bowerman and asked him if he could do me one last favour. Read the line once again. Robin Bowerman has been impeccable, comprehensible and really helpful and he send me straight after some versions of the same line. Yes, he sent me 11 versions of the same line so I could have a a good variety to choose from.

Here they are:

I have heard them, and even though they all sound good, but with different tones, I have chosen 4, (4,6,7,11), however my favourite I think it stays with 11.

Once again a big thanks to Robin for being able to add a lot of mood onto the piece thus far !

Transcription: Erich Zann Extra Face Modelling

After getting my animatic up to a more resolved animation. I decided to carry on with modelling the characters. This week I have spoken to Alan about modelling the extra face for Erich Zann, a face which shows Erich Zann in this insane, dead, still mode.
As the face will not move and will be shown for a couple of seconds, Alan suggested for me to model the variation.
So I took on that advice and began modelling from the original face, although a variation the face still has to belong to the same character.

Before                                             After

This face will not have any controls, or rigs, and it will be added onto the body on that shot only. therefore I could add more detail and irregularity onto the geometry, any further detail will also be added in texturing.

Having the base mesh, pretty much done I added some more edge loops and then took it onto Zbrush. yes, you heard well, the first time I have stepped into the world of modelling in Zbrush. Although confused with the interface, it was a enjoyable journey. I was able to add more detail onto character. However this time around I just used as the same then the sculpt geometry tool in Maya, as I didnt want to divide geometry endlessly and add more detail and then not knowing how to export it back. Something that later was understood and then used in the next model.

Yes, I enjoyed working so much Zbrush that I returned to create the foam out of Erich Zann's mouth, though this time I divided the mesh once and was able to create more detail and irregularity.

Surely, I will be using this program more often. Though because of the time on this project, wont be just now.

Transcription: The Music of Erich Zann Latest Version Animatic

Over the past days I have been juggling work between getting the models done and the animatic, here is the latest version of the animatic.

I have taken some of the feedback and so far the story seems to be much more appealing within the 3 and half minutes time range.

Transcription:Erich Zann Face Modelling Details and Ncloth Simulation

Today, I had my 5th tutorial with Alan and once again i presented a shopping list of technical questions related with  modelling the characters. When I showed my model he said I should work on the topology, and correct it where needed. Also I have asked how i could add some more details onto the old man's face without messing up the model.
So after his tips I had a go in getting more details for the character's face.

Before                                                          After

Definitely a big improvement, as now you can see better the ageing and character. more details will be added in the texturing stage, details such as eye wrinkles and liver spots,  etc .

Alongside this, I have also corrected the geometry on the body and did some tests with cloth on my character. At the moment as the character don't have any joints to constraint the cloth, it just falls. Later, skinning will solve this problem , though a good test to see how cloth can simulate.

Ooops!  Erich Zann

Meanwhile, the latest version of the animatic is on its way. Yesterday I found myself editing some of the music, and the animatic will be uploaded later today.
