Beautician Sculpt Quick Update

As you may know I am modelling my beautician character in a different character modelling pipeline. My aim is to learn a more effective way to get my characters quickly to 3D with a better result. Therefore I have been looking into sculpting the character first, retopologise it and then bake the maps onto the character.

So far I have been playing around in Zbrush sculpting the character. I have to say it has been amazingly funny.

here's some progress:

Quick Update Professionally

I have recently applied for a freelance job here in Portugal and got accept to produce firstly a character in 3D, then an animation for a possible TV Series. Although I wont be able to inform you too much on the project, I am able to tell you for what company is and a few keywords for the project.

The company I will be working with is Doremi Sounds, a music company which specializes in music for babies, which boost their interactivity, imagination and mood.

The project revolves around the words babies, cuteness, learning and colourful worlds. So as soon i can advance with showing some work, I will post it on here.

On another note, I have been trying to broaden my knowledge in different software to facilitate my character pipeline and to achieve better results. So lately, I have been playing bodypaint 3D, a great software for texturing, in a 3d view and also Topogun, for re-topology of meshes that have been sculpted in a sculpting program like Zbrush. These 2 programs, definitely will improve my works and completely change my workflow.

What I have been up to ...

... I have to say that I have been highly motivated lately to produce work, therefore I have a few projects I am working on.

Firstly, I would like to say that I am waiting for this CG test for a company so I can possibly be employed by them. Meanwhile, I feel the urge to be highly active, therefore I have been doing some 2D and 3D work, so my skills improve.

On the project side I have continued working on my personal project, The Master of Animals, producing some character sketches for it.

This sketches helped me loosen up a bit and get back to character work.

Alongside this work, I have been working on my Zbrush Skills, therefore I have been modelling the Beautician Character I have designed a few years back.

So far I just created a base mesh for him with Zspheres.

and began adding the bigger form on the overall body

One last update is on Atom Pancakes, we have began a new project for a competition. Although I cannot give anymore information, I can assure you when we have significant work we will be posting it.

Ohh and I have added a link to my facebook page, It has been up for quite sometime and updated more often than the blog. So take a look and drop a like.

New Adventure!

For quite sometime I have been planning with Ivana, a life changing moment. Therefore, We decided to change airs and embark in an adventure. Unlike Carl Fredricksen, we didn't go to Paradise Falls, but we have moved to Portugal. It was a mutual decision in order to slow-down our rather frenetic life in Britain.

This

For this

With a few job interviews on my way for a 3D generalist position, I'm hoping for life to go smoothly on this life changing opportunity. But Ivana will also look to work on her own area, Illustration.

The first few days were great to see family, rethink this life choice, now with my things arriving tomorrow shipped from Britain, and the first job Interview next Monday, I'm more than ready to face the destiny.

Meanwhile, all my works in 3D are in a stand by mode, because all my hardware and software are still not here with me. But as soon as I receive my computer, I will enlight you on a very interesting project I'm working on.

Any more news I will post on here.

I leave you with a photo of a place I visited yesterday, Quinta da Regaleira, a magical place not far from my house, which you can explore all day. It has beautiful gardens, a palace and a few caves. A concept artist Playground, enjoy!

As a warm up for my next character project, I have carried on sketching animals.

Here is a quick 2 page update on the sketchbook.

More to come!

Learning Zbrush Progress: Insect Tutorial Final

So here is the last post showing the progress on my bug sculpture.
From where I left it last I added a few more details, by using either zspheres or primitives within zbrush. These primitives proved very useful to create a variety of shapes, based on a mesh created.

Firstly, I created reins out of zspheres...

Then added more details... for the saddle.

And finally added a cargo made of zbrush primitives, masked and modified.

More updates on my progress in Zbrush to come soon, as well as other news in my professional life, Stay Tuned...

Learning Zbrush Progress IV

Here is a quick update of my learning journey in Zbrush. to my insect model I have added a few more details to make it look more realistic, more believable.

Firstly, I added the mandibles and with power of the zbrush plugin, Subtool Master. I was able to mirror and group it. within the same subtool.

Then I moved onto creating the antennae, where the same technique was used.

Finally, I created a saddle to make the insect rideable. this done by once again by drawing the topology.

Learning Zbrush - Progress III

Lately, I have been working on my 3D Bug Model which is based on a Digital Tutors tutorial.  From where I left it, with the topology done I began emphasizing on the details. By using a standard brush,  I went over the previously done detail and added extra.

On the top of that, I added more detail such as skin deformation and shell details. By using Alphas, I created a textured brushes to add small fine details.

Finally I have also, added the eye balls onto the model, with the help of Subtool Master Plugin, I modeled the eyes and added onto the model as new subtools (on a new layer) so I can choose which layer to sculpt.

Here is a quick update on the model thus far.
