Unit 6- Cinnamon Cortinarius Life Cycle Storyboard *1

Here's is the shots from my storyboard, this time I decided to paint it because it allowed ,more or less, to get a clear idea of the colours im pretending to use in each different place. Also, the indication of camera positions and will help me to stage my animation clearer.

Hey Rubes,

I think your pitch presentation went very well yesterday - and I think the slant you've given your life-cycle 'The Invasion' - is inspired. All I suggest you do now is truly embrace that emphasis - you're going for an incessant, unstoppable feeling - as these armies of spores are released - rather like the little spaceships from the mothership in Independence Day - indeed, I suggest you look again at the way that particular sequence is put together - for instance, a slow menacing pannaing view across the top of the mushroom as all the spores are dispersed from it... with the mushroom shape, you get the idea of alien invaders (flying saucers) implicitly - so yes, you need to get in touch with your inner 'Roland Emmerich' and really move your staging, shot composition and editing into 'summer blockbuster' territory! Looking forward to it!

Indeed - I wonder, if in story structure terms, the dispersal of the spores shouldn't be the great big money shot that ends the trailer? In other words, how about starting your film, not with the dispersal, but with the 'arrival on our planet of a mysterious pod/meteorite' (again - this classic genre stuff) - which sinks into the ground and then starts to make something 'alien' beneath it (Remember the remake of War of the Worlds - in which the aliens were already under the ground and 'grew out of it' - watch those scenes too) - we see all these strange tentacles forming and then this 'enormous' alien structure (the mushroom) roars up out of the ground - we go inside and see the 'mini-ships' being reading for release (like the drop-ship scene in Aliens, for instance) and then, suddenly, more of the seed pods/eggs/mini-ships are released from the 'mother ship' and are dispersed - this shot fades to black - and then, suddenly we see another single pod land on the ground, it sinks, there is a rumble on the soundtrack and then 'bang' - finish!!!!

Basically, it's everything you've already got in place, but the start point is just moved forward to reference sci-fi/blockbuster grammar...

I guess you are right about moving the starting point forward, I had that in mind before, but I wasn't too sure, but I guess the big shot is the dispersal of the spores.

I was thinking, the arrival could resemble something like the Terminator 2, the establishing shot zooms near the ground and then we see these spores just arriving.

absolutely - the arrival of 'a thing' in a deserted location is classic of sci-fi narratives - the coming of the storm - it also means, musically, you can build from 'ominous' to full-blown 'drama!' :-)
