Concept Art: J.R.R. Tolkien and illustrations for the "The Hobbit"

Still, on the traditional artists, i went around i researched some book's Illustrators, yes.. before concept art for films , existed something called books illustrations. Although they differ a little bit while some book illustrations are stills and only pretend to show the place, concept art is a far more dynamic art, where you play a lot with perspective, scale, movement ,light and atmosphere.

Still I was impressed with the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, He was the writer of the famous book "the Hobbit" and also its illustrator.
The following is a good example of his illustrations:

In this picture, we can see a great sense of depth, provoked by the distance of the trees and they persperctive , but also for its lighting, just like a watercolour artist he tried to give that beauty, that softness to portray something magical, playing with its atmosphere. Actually for this illustration he used crayons, a different material but that gave the same effect. Also the choice of colours help us understand not only its depth but also its magical aspects.
